ROOTS Speech Therapy

Re-education of Oral Tendencies for Success

Suzanne Pitkin is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with over 10 years of experience in the field working with a wide range of pediatric clients.

After becoming a mom and having breast feeding difficulties, Suzanne began attending therapy for her daughter for pre and post operative therapy for tethered oral tissues (tongue, lip, and buccals ties) and she experienced therapy from the parent perspective. This furthered her passion to work with families to offer support to those going through this process to enrich their child’s health and optimize their development.

Suzanne is passionate about all things speech therapy and truly helping families get to the root cause of feeding and speech challenges.  She will work with your family to help correct oral compensatory strategies likely contributing to compounding issues such as breast feeding challenges, feeding/swallowing issues, articulation/speech deficits, mouth breathing, oral habits, and more. Suzanne will work to determine the underlying cause of a problem to find the most effective solution. This direct approach will offer life long results as therapy is functionally focused on determining the root issue. Ultimately this prevents other health consequences, leads to more optimal function of the mouth, and therefore the whole body.

Oh Baby! Lactation

My name is Lori Atkins, and I'm a Registered Nurse, as well as a Lactation Consultant, IBCLC, in Connecticut. Attending my best friends' birth many years ago led me to fall in love with Women’s Health. My long and varied expertise includes:

- Excelling as a Labor and Delivery RN at a large city hospital

- Running an obstetrical clinic

- Teaching Childbirth and Breastfeeding classes

- Working in a level 3 NICU

- Creating, as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, a comprehensive, hospital-wide breast pump program.

In-hospital breastfeeding care is so important for new parents, but I always am frustrated for families if they struggle to find the support they need when breastfeeding problems are more common once they've come home.

I have created Oh, Baby! with love, compassion and knowledge to help you meet your breastfeeding goals.

Craniosacral Therapist

The focus of my work is in supporting families to achieve their goals -for themselves and

their loved ones. CranioSacral therapy was developed by John Upledger who was an osteopath. He developed the system based on the osteopathic principal that when structure is off, function will be off. CranioSacral therapy is a very gentle, non-manipulative manual

therapy that helps to release tension in the muscles, tissue and fascia. The goal being

to facilitate structural alignment so that the systems can function optimally. CranioSacral

therapy enhances blood, lymph and cerebral spinal fluid flow – these are the fluids that

take nutrients and oxygen to the systems of the body and remove toxins.  Additionally, CranioSacral helps to helps to calm the autonomic nervous system, our

sense of fight or flight, our little ones sometimes to struggle with this.

I am a Diplomate Certified CranioSacral therapist. My CranioSacral training is through

the Upledger Institute. I am both a teaching assistant for them as well as a presenter on

Ankyloglossia (tongue-tie).

I have training in Lymphatic Drainage from Bruno Chikly as well as training in Viseral

Manipulation.
